On 23 October 2012, the Cambodian Board of Investment (CIB) of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), in cooperation with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), held a training workshop on investment promotion and facilitation for officials serving in Provincial-Municipal Investment Sub-Committees.
The workshop aims at enhancing the capacity of the participants to master the investment related law and regulations, the QIP application procedure and after-care services. The trainees were officials from the provinces of Kampong Cham, Kratie, Steung Treng, Ratanakiri, Mondul Kiri, Svay Rieng, Prey Veng and the city of Phnom Penh, and representatives of chamber of commerces attached to each province.
Speaking to the trainees, H.E SOK Chenda Sophea, Minister attached to the Prime Minister and Secretary General of the CDC, pointed out that under the leadership of the Samdech Techo HUN Sen, Cambodia had become more politically stable with a constant economic growth. With such a good performance of the country, inward FDIs have been increasing, especially in the recent years, he added.
Although Cambodia has recently experienced such positive trends, the capacity of the provincial-municipal officials to provide a proper service to the investors, to be aware of the investors’ needs and care for the investors’ after their business start-up is relatively limited. Thus, it is necessary that such trainings be carried out in order to attract and maintain the investments in the provinces and municipalities.
CIB’s chiefs of department and JICA experts were invited to give presentations to trainees. Those presentations covered various topics, such as: “FDI trend and needs of investors,” “introduction CDC’s services for investors,” “QIP application procedures”and“after-care service for investors.” After the presentations, trainees were given opportunity to join the group discussions.
By the end of the day, a certificate of completion was handed over to each trainee.
