On December 17th 2014 at the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), the 11th Cambodia – Japan Public – Private Sector Meeting was held with participation from representatives from relevant agencies of the Royal Government of Cambodia, Japanese firms in Cambodia, JETRO, JICA, and the Japanese Embassy to Cambodia. The meeting was co-chaired by H.E. Sok Chenda Sophea, Minister attached to the Prime Minister and Secretary General of the CDC, and H.E. Yuji Kumamaru, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia.
The meeting is the regular bi-annual event to promote and facilitate investment from Japan to Cambodia under the framework of the Bilateral Investment Treaty between Cambodia and Japan which was signed on June 14th 2007. It provides an invaluable opportunity for Japanese investors in Cambodia to raise their concerns and requests to the Royal Government of Cambodia. It also forms a critical part of the implementation of the Aftercare Service at the CDC. This event attracted more attention from the Japanese business community with a rise in the number of participants to almost double that of the previous meeting, a testament to the increasing interest from Japanese investors toward this mechanism. Many issues were discussed during the three hours long meeting ranging from the concerns on permit/approval procedure for the trade restricted items, trade facilitation and requests of Japanese investors to the report of recent developments from the Japan Business Association in Cambodia (JBAC) and JICA.
On behalf of the Royal Government of Cambodia, H.E. Sok Chenda Sophea expressed his gratitude and appreciation to active participation of Japanese delegation in the event who always show unshakable confidence in the development of Cambodia under the strong leadership of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and for raising important points in order to improve the investment climate and competitiveness of Cambodia. In return, H.E. Yuji Kumamaru expressed his heartfelt thanks to the CDC as well as other relevant agencies of the Royal Government of Cambodia for always providing positive cooperation and responding to concerns and requests from the Japanese business community.
